Mr. Nanang Sujatmiko is originally from Sumbawa. After earning a degree in environmental biology he got married in Yogyakarta and decided to settle there. He rented a land of 1,000m2 and built a library in 2015.
Every day there are about 20 children readers coming to read books that are mostly from his personal collection. He hopes that our “green books” will make children more focused on environmental issues.
Every month he organizes an educational film screening for children as they lack entertainment there. They also have a lot of activities such as coloring and origami-making workshop.
Moreover, he involves women in the village by training them to make healthy food from fresh water fish that will be sold at the schools. Mr. Nanang Sujatmiko also organizes seminars on hydroponics and waste bank that has become a magnet for the locals.
The funding of this Eco-Education Center is made possible by the donors of green-books.org’s crowdfunding campaign at startsomegood.com.
