Ms. Warda Amir decided to join the NGO Yayasan Kalabia Indonesia so she could do something beneficial to her birthplace, in this case the conservation of coastal areas.
Every month the NGO visits at least 7 villages in Raja Ampat, West Papua, and will bring our “Green Books” along. They go by boat and stay in a village for about three days. Before visiting the villages, they announce their route on a local radio station.
Upon arrival, they meet the head of village and school headmaster and ask them to encourage the villagers, adults and children alike, to join the class. They teach them about the environment and how to protect their coastal area.
Children are allowed to borrow books, but they must return them before the boat leaves their village. This is truly a floating mobile Eco-Education Center.
The funding of this Eco-Education Center is made possible by the donors of green-books.org’s crowdfunding campaign at startsomegood.com.
