After finishing his study in English literature, Mr. Babrak moved back to Jombang and decided to be a farmer. In 2008 he started Griya Baca Abukus as not only a place where people can come and read but also provide them with some valuable skills.
He said, “If you want to create an open-minded society, make people read. Knowledge can be accessed through reading.”He deplored the fact that Indonesians do not have the culture of reading. Mr. Babrak focuses on children because parents are busy with their work. Now the library has 350 members.
The main environmental issues in his location is household waste: people still dispose their waste into the river or burn it. He hopes that our “green books” and eco-activities will make the children aware of the importance of protecting their environment.
The funding of this Eco-Education Center is made possible by the donors of green-books.org’s crowdfunding campaign at startsomegood.com.
