Bali Children’s Project has a library program located in Penestanan Kaja, Ubud, where children of all ages come to read, participate in programs with books, draw pictures and learn to appreciate reading.
They come as early as they can read and line up to get library cards. This is an area where no child would own their own book. Besides managing the library, Mrs. Opy Sulaeman goes around schools and promotes the awareness of HIV/AIDS.
According to her: “The care for the environment is relatively new here, as our culture used to be in harmony with nature and used only organic products.” She hopes that reading can make these kids more aware of their environment.
The funding of this Eco-Education Center is made possible by the donors of green-books.org’s crowdfunding campaign at startsomegood.com.
