Mr. Ferdi is working as journalist and tourist guide. He co-founded and manages a youth center at Detusoko Barat village. He works together with volunteers to run this Youth Center.
Currently, they offer a variety of activities: English courses, book reading, organic farming and waste management. However, their knowledge about waste management is limited, they only separate between plastic and paper, but don’t have any knowledge about composting.
If the kids want to join the English course, they need to “pay” using plastic bottles or paper, which will be used for up-cycling artwork. They also plant bamboo near the river to prevent floods.
Mr. Ferdi says: “Our goal is for the youth to have motivation for developing the local resources to build the village and to improve the economic of the people so they don’t move out to bigger cities.”
