The eco-education center is a part of reading garden located in Kolono Village, Konawe Selatan District, Southeast Sulawesi. It is in the middle of the residents’ housing, close to forests, gardens, rivers and mountains. In rural areas where natural sustainability is still maintained.
Windarti Aprina, familiarly called Wiwin, currently works as an honorary teacher of English and Cultural Arts at one of the secondary schools in her village Kolono. She works from morning until 2pm.
Since she was in college, Wiwin have been active in several volunteer activities with her community, focusing on teaching and environmental protection. Because of the distance between the village and the city, they are around two hours away, she could not be involved with the community as often as she used to be. Therefore she decided to establish a reading garden in her village. Where is she teaching and seeking book donations at the same time. That’s why Wiwin reached out to Green-Books.org.
The children in the community are elementary school students, aged seven to eleven. She divided the classes into three kinds, literacy classes, English classes, and Eco-classes. The schedule is three times a week, starting at 15.30 until 17.30.
Wiwin says: “I hope that in the future I can deliver positive lessons about the environment to our children through eco-activities.”
In 2019, Wiwin started to implement the Zero Waste School Program.
