Achmad is living in the Al-Fatah Pondok Pesantren boarding house, he studies Computer Application Studies and takes care of the boarding house library 3 days a week.
The village is near Dieng Plateau that sits at 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) above sea level, far from major population centres. Most of the people there are living from farming potatoes, cabbage, carrots and rice.
The waste management is still very difficult to apply due to insufficient knowledge, so people keep throwing their garbage into the river.
To gain extra money, they started to cultivate mushrooms in the Pesantren and they would love to learn about composting.
Achmad says: “It is important to introduce children to the importance of nature so that in the future they can grow as people who care about their environment. Also if they like reading books, they can gain knowledge and apply what they learned from the books.”
