Bu Herni and her husband are farmers in Cikahuripan village. They started the Reading Club TBM Kai Cantigi when they moved to this village six years ago.
Until today, it is a place for children and parents to hangout and read. It is located in the highlands around the protected forest area, about 30 minutes from Bandung.
TBM Kai Cantigi programs are focusing on environmental issues, especially forests. The problem here is deforestation in order to grow pasture for cattles. The deforestation causes landslides and floods in the village. The farmers also throw the cattle feces into the water supply lines, which is polluting the clean water.
The Reading club advocates for forest rehabilitation. They are working together with elementary schools in the village and they take the scout group for environmental activities such as tree planting and creating seedling cultivation.
Bu Herni says: “I hope the children can gain knowledge about the environment, especially about water supply preservation and forest rehabilitation, so that in the future they can have their forest back like used to be.”
