092 / Bangunjiwo, Bantul, DI Yogyakarta – School Eco-Library
Rifqi is still a student at university, living in pesantren (Islamic boarding school), the home of this Eco-Library. After graduating, Rifqi wants to be an entrepreneur and plans to remain living in pesantren to help the kids there.
The Bangunjiwo village is located near teak forest, which is why most of the community members are working as wooden craftsmen and artists. The issue here is illegal logging by property companies that cut the forest area to make more space to build houses.
Apparently the local school doesn’t have good reads for the students and the kids who live in the pesantren. Rifqi wants to motivate the kids with the green books and raise awareness about the environment.
He says: “In the future, after the kids gained more knowledge about environment, they will know how to react to the situation that happens here”, referring to the illegal logging.
