Mrs. Meutia Hasan created a community center called Rumoh Baca. Children come here regularly to read, play, and to learn about cooking and stitching. All visitors need to read a book first before they can play or use the facilities of Rumoh Baca.
They also organize Lapak Baca Trotoar (Pop-up sidewalk libraries) during the car free days. The goal is to make the families read together and to interact with each other.
The environment in the area struggles: The mangroves were damaged during the devastating tsunami in 2004 and the area is prone to erosion. The people also have a lack of knowledge about sustainable development and waste management.
Mrs. Zainah says: “We are looking forward to introducing inspiring educational material to the kids and the community through the Eco-Education Program.”
