065 / Karya Baru, Palembang, South Sumatra – School Eco-library
Mr. Ramond Rao, loves books to an extent, that he even majored in library science at Raden Fatah University in Palembang.
Now he runs a library in Palembang’s vicinity to cater to the needs of Al Furqoon Junior and Senior High School, 430 students in total.
Unfortunately, Palembang is hit by haze on an annual basis. The haze has been caused by irresponsible slash and burn practices and has recently been augmented by the new palm oil plantations. In the rainy seasons on the other hand, the Palembang region suffers from frequent floods. Mr. Rao says, another environmental problem is, that the people dispose their domestic waste into the rivers all year round.
